Located in the Queensland town of Quilpie, the Quilpie Diggers’ Race Club Inc was founded by a group of local World War II soldiers who shared experiences as prisoners of war.
On their return home, they decided to form a racing club; hence, the inclusion of “Diggers” in the official club title.
Throughout the history of the Club, there have been stories of service, endurance, controversy, scandal, tragedy and heroism involving great country horses, trainers, jockeys and owners.
Today the Club carries on with enthusiastic members who promote the proud traditions celebrating horses and racing as part of the history and future of Outback life. Annual events focus on bush racing, horse-sports and entertainment to maintain these traditions with the local community and fortunate tourists.
